- This B&B is in a real castle with portraits of previous owners hanging on the walls. At night, you might see ghosts ...
- Valensole is surrounded by purple/violet lavender fields. Google Maps: Jardin

- What a view over the caldera! Amazing sunsets too! Large pool at the edge of the crater.
- Perhaps not a suitable hotel for people with a fear of heights or earthquakes. Google Maps: Belvedere

France . Carcassonne . Hotel Tribe
- Make sure you get a room with a view over the river Aude and the old Cité Médiévale.
- The Cité is one of the best-preserved medieval fortified cities in Europe. It’s huge and very impressive. Google Maps: Tribe

England . London . Tower Hotel
- View from our Executive room over St. Katharine Docks. The famous Dickens Inn on the far right. Many restaurants in the big brown building.
- Some rooms have views of the River Thames and Tower Bridge. Google Maps: Tower

Portugal . Algarve . Marina Portimão Resort
- I usually don't stay in big resorts, but the location of this one is special.
- We had a large apartment with a balcony and a private terrace on the roof. Google Maps: Marina

Italy . Rome . Bettoja Hotel Mediterraneao
- This suite on the 10th floor was cozy with real paintings and Chinese vases. Most rooms have been renovated since I stayed here.
- The rooftop terrace has a bar with a nice view of central Rome. Google Maps: Bettoja

France . Paris . Ibis Styles Montparnasse
- Cool hotel for being an Ibis. Try to book a room on the corner with a balcony. These rooms are larger and have windows on both sides of the balcony.
- Note: The bathrooms and showers are small. Google Maps: Montparnasse

I never book accommodation long in advance. Often the same day or just 1-3 days before.
Sometimes sitting on a train or bus only a few hours away.
I use many different apps and I also book directly on the hotel's website.

- Charming place run by a French couple. Some rooms have a private terrace.
- Also a large roof terrace with views of the impressive Cittadella fortress. Google Maps: Provicario

- If you like modern art, this is the place to stay. Photos of old movie stars in the rooms.
- At the entrance, two very special statues. Google Maps: NYX

Italy . Verona . Hotel Bologna
- What a pleasant surprise! For VIP guests only … complimentary prosecco.
- Next to Piazza Bra and the old Roman Arena. Google Maps: Bologna

Many cities in Europe have a city tax for hotels, apartments and B&Bs.
- In small establishments, you often have to pay in cash when you leave. Take a photo of the money if there is no staff around.

- We stayed in the suite with a large private panoramic terrace, but the view from the room wasn’t bad either … Tuscany is so beautiful. Google Maps: Godenano

France . Fontainebleau . L´Aigle Noir MGallery
- Getting ready for a complimentary aperitif at the hotel. Deluxe room with a Place Bonaparte view. Excellent breakfast.
- Next to the famous Château de Fontainebleau (castle). Google Maps: MGallery

Portugal . Lisbon . Varandas de Lisboa
- Large rooms and apartments with views of the Tejo River. Local restaurant O Cofre next door.
- Below Alfama and close to the center. Near metro: Praça do Comércio. Google Maps: Varandas

Italy . Sicily . Taoromina . Villa Schuler
- On the top floor, the rooms have a private terrace facing the sea.
- Also, a roof terrace for guests with a stunning view of the active volcano Etna, especially at sunset or during an eruption.

Spain . Barcelona . Bless Hotel
- Rooftop pool with panoramic views of Barcelona’s skyline. Renovated since we stayed here.
- Metro: Plaça Catalunya. The famous La Ramla street across the square on the right. Google Maps: Bless

Portugal . Algarve . Lagos . NH Lagos Resort
- A fairly large tourist hotel, but some rooms are far away from the big pool, bars and restaurants. This room has a hidden terrace with a garden view.
- Near the bus station and within walking distance to the city center. Google Maps: Lagos

Europe . Apartments
- I also stay in apartments with a laundry machine.
- Usually, for at least three nights, as the check in time can be late in the afternoon and the check out time earlier than most hotels (10 am). Often no late evening check in.
- Some places require a 100-300 euros cash deposit. Don’t stay there.

Europe . Room in a private home
- Some homes have beautiful decorations, such as crystal chandeliers, real paintings on the ceilings, old paintings hanging on the walls or carved furniture …
- Perhaps not so much privacy, but interesting for a night or two.
- Often, cash payment only.

Europe . Hotels
- Nice room with a balcony, but the reception staff were not service-minded, so we only stayed one night.
- When we were about to leave our room at 11:04, they called and said we had to hurry up so they could clean it.
- No name or links to this hotel. Goodbye!
